Cm offering 'holiday club' type care

I'm gradually moving more towards caring for just school-aged children & from September won't have any little ones at all. Most of my existing school children are TTO but I know of lots of local parents struggle with holiday cover so looking to offer a holiday club type provision & hoping for some advice.

  1. What sort of activities would you expect to see? I would anticipate days out in good weather (parks, farm etc) or possibly playcentre depending on age. Craft sessions, free-play & organised games at home. Anything else or is this not enough?
  1. What should I charge? My hourly rate for little ones of £6ph is too much esp if there are siblings so thinking of a set daily rate (8-6pm) of £40 (£75 for 2 siblings) inc breakfast, tea, drinks & snacks but bring packed lunch Does that sound ok?
  1. There are plenty of clubs 9-3pm that charge just £15/20 for the day & I would consider offering wraparound for those needing longer hours & dropping/collecting from selected locations & charging £15 (£25 for siblings) to cover breakfast, tea & transport - do you think it's worth doing or am I complicating things?

Hope someone can help as I can't afford zero income in the holidays but don't need to work every day so looking at alternative ways to get business without taking on any more year round or early years!

I charge £37 / day including lunch and snacks 0800-1800.

Parents book and pay at the beginning of the holidays for the days they want.

Oh activities .... Keep then busy - outside as much as possible.

Thanks that's helpful - how does it compare to your normal hourly rate?

My cm would just charge normal rates, so this sounds amazing!

I'd baulk at that sort of price as the school holiday club does 0730 til 530 for £17 including breakfast and snacks but not lunch (I send a packed lunch)

HSMMaCM · 25/04/2014 23:29

Normal rate £50/ day

Club rates £20/day with meals

So somewhere in between

It's difficult to know about price because child care costs vary so much across the country. I would love to get £6 an hour. But the holiday clubs round here are far more than £17 a day. There would be a need for what you are offering where I am. Some children dislike the holiday club at the school and I know some parents just don't want their children to be in the school building in the holidays as it's meant to be a break from school.

It's hard juggling little ones with school age children, so I think outings etc with older ones only would be far easier.
My children (own and minded) have done pretty much what you've suggested these holidays, crafts, parks, garden, jigsaws, games, free play, baking. Just normal stuff you do with your own children, just extended as there are more children joining in.
