The family i nanny for is moving soon. My commute time is going to double and the mileage is going to increase by 16 miles a day. Should i ask for a pay raise to cover that expense??

You could ask for a rise if you have been with them a few years.

You can't get them to pay for travel to/from work.

Well they were going to get a new nanny and then didnt.likee he and asked for me back and in the mean time i got another job 40 minutes away. A huge perk was that i lived so close and we discussed that. It was a factor me leaving my other job to be with them again. Ive been with them for a year and a few months...

This happened to me last year,my family moved ,I now have a half hour run to work and home ,as well as half hour school runs .I have been there 5 years and I did consider leaving, the old house was close to me and the school was only 10 minutes from their house, but they did increase the petrol to cover school runs and also to cover part of my run to and from work. How close will they be to schools?

SunshineNanny64 · 18/04/2014 19:17

The kids are only 2 1\2 so no schools involved yet. But whenever i take them somewhere i use her van so taking them places is no worry. Just the extra miles to and from

I wouldn't consider that unreasonable at all. 16 miles a day is a lot.
Work out how much extra it will cost and ask them.

SunshineNanny64 · 18/04/2014 21:51

I think i will. I really like them and love their boys. I dont want to step on any toes!!!

I don't think its unreasonable to ask. Its the sort of thing that it would be nice if THEY thought to raise it with you as they obviously know it will impact you.

TBH I don't know many employers who would see it their responsibility to cover commuting costs for employees. But if they want to be nice they may do something.

WRT pay rises, so many sectors haven't had pay rises for years and years, again, it would depend how nice they were feeling really.
