Hi, so Iv got a new job as a nanny, I have booked on to a first aid course & now have insurance. I know I can't fully get ofsted registered until Iv done my first aid course( 26th April) but I wanted to sort my DBS out now so once Iv done my first aid course I can get registered. So looking at the ofsted register it asked if I had a DBS (I don't) I was then sent to capita(to get my DBS) it's asking for some sort of reference/number & a password. I'm sooo confused. Pleased help as I start work next week!!! Ekkkk

The guide to registration gives a reference but can not see a password. I would guess that you complete the online Ofsted reg form and once they have that they then give DBS info.

Have you completed the Ofsted registration form online?

No i can't complete yet untill Iv done my first aid course. As that's one of the regulations. I don't know if I can just get a normal crb check done...as it seems to get a DBS my new employer has to apply.

ofsteddbsapplication.co.uk/Step-One.aspx

That seems fairly clear that you should not proceed until you have something from Ofsted. I guess the password.

If you are just waiting for First Aid, will the Ofsted online form let you proceed without that and let you send that later? Might be worth a try, as by the time all the checks are done you will have the First Aid certificate.

CRB does not exist anymore. A nanny agency may be able to do a DBS check but it will cost you quite a bit I would expect. Would Ofsted even accept a check by someone else? Maybe they will under the new system.

Personally I would wait until you are ready to apply, complete the online registration and take things from there.

OFSTED may accept a DBS which has been subscribed to the update service but you must call them at least twice to check and get the names of the people you speak to. They may however argue that the role is different and you would need to be very sure that the check was carried out to the same clearance level. Personally, knowing OFSTED, I wouldn't.

A week won't make much difference in terms of the registration process really. It will still take anywhere between 3 weeks and 3 months depending on the volume of applications.

I have to get a new DBS as my old company hadn't got the one u can pass on. Can I not get a DBS before I start my job? Or at Least apply for one? If so what websites can I use or is it one in particular?
