I have used this site and got 2 Nanny jobs through them. As a Nanny you just 'looked' at the posters and if they saw your profile, they messaged you...that got the ball rolling. Now...it costs the Nanny £20 a month. I have spent £40 so far but cancelled my subscription.. There are not that many Nanny jobs out there at the moment and after having no luck and being out of work for a while, (but not too worried) I saw a job today but will cost me another £20 which I cant really justify as I messaged loads of people and hardly anyone even messaged me back. Ah well...such is life...If you are in Newquay, looking for a nanny and you are on this site... lots of my Nanny friends are not wanting to pay this money and that's maybe why you haven't got many replies? Anyone need a good Nanny in Truro/Newquay/Redruth area? Thankyou for letting me have a moan!!

You should be able to contact them without having to pay if they're a gold member.

It used to be the norm - and still is on some sites - that parents paid to post and childcarers didn't. These membership sites sail dangerously close to charging job seekers to look for work which I think is unfair.

I agree and most of the nannies I know now don't use this site now. But what was worse, it has cost me £40 so far and for nothing. Had a few contacts and whilst were lovely jobs, they were much too far away and so many people didn't even bother to reply to me...not even a no thankyou. I actually thought that the site was down as one day I replied to at least 6 vacancies and not a thing. I have never been out of work but getting a bit worried now tho trying not too!! Something will come up, been offered pasty shop just now, but I love nannying and am great with children so what a waste. Am good housekeeper too and have amazing references if anyone interested...see, learning to network!!

Not many of the parents looking seem to be a gold member - which I think is silly

Try should register and pay the £20/40 for 1/2mths and then nannies seeking a position can contact them

Nannies rarely join now as so expensive and could take a few months for the right family

If the names of the people are their user name, I tended to google the name and area to see if I could stalk find them on Facebook or LinkedIn; then make contact that way. I was the seeker of child care so it was easier for me to do this but it is surprising how nannys and childminders are not on linkedIn, it's free for basic connections and you can email by connecting so don't have to pay to email.

Are you on LinkedIn as a nanny looking for work? I would say this is a good way to keep your profile out there. Ensure key words are used in your description - like nanny, child are locations(s) etc as search engines pick up on this within LinkedIn and say google / yahoo searches too.

thankyou for all your suggestions and help. As an older nanny I do find all this new fangled computer thingy a bit difficult but am learning all the time! My previous MB has offered to help so I will go and have a chat.

I'm finding now I'm looking for a new job 3/4 of parents haven't paid for a gold membership. I don't really want to pay out £20 for a lot of parents to not even bother to reply sometimes. Surely they shouldn't mind paying out the £20 compared to the thousands it would cost if they went via an agency.

grabaspoon · 07/04/2014 13:39

I am on childcare - I don't pay I just add parents as favourites and then they can contact me - free to reply to their messages.

mrsthomsontobe · 07/04/2014 17:27

I don't think it use to be so dear I'm sure I only used to be. £14.99 every 3 months then they must have shot there prices up

Lovingcarenanny · 13/04/2014 08:37

I pay £14.99 quarterly but have been doing so for about 3 years. It's only new members who pay £20 monthly. I wouldn't want to pay that much as I've never secured a nanny job through the site. I am an NVQ level 3 qualified childcare provider with over 25 years experience and outstanding references yet I hardly get replies through them when job hunting. I find private advertising in local high street shops on a postcard and netmims work best.

£5 a month is fine but they stopped that

Shame parents don't use netmums. That's free for parents and nannies to advertise

And yes if a parent wants a nanny them paying £40 for 2mths compared to paying £800+ via an agency is good - but so many don't

It's rare to find a job I like on childcare but sometimes read one that sounds ok. Click to contact and says upgrade ie parents havnt paid so add to fav

Day or so later I get an email saying xyz has looked at my profile and added me as fav. I click on name and it's the same job. But still havnt paid

Do I want to work for a family that is so stingy they won't pay £20 out .....

I've had gold membership (cm) for a year & didn't plan on renewing until I was actively looking to fill a space but it's really annoying to get a message saying a parent tried to contact me but couldn't because I'm not a gold member grrrr. They may have been looking for later this year when I will have a space or I could have recommended someone else - helpful but not worth paying for membership Confused
