The way it generally works is most councils do have a start up grant, which works in either the way that you get am amount say £200 to start up with, and you choose where to spend it and send them receipts, this is how it's done in my area.

Or, like where I registered, they paid for certain things, mine paid for a CMing book, my first year NCMA membership and insurance plus kit including contracts etc, first aid course etc.

I know in more needy areas you get more money or help, but I think the NCMA membership and insurance is generally the main thing covered.

I can't remember quite how mine worked, I just remember it being sent, my friend had to pay for hers and got it refunded. Your council should tell you exactly what you need to do.

have just emailed her, but cant get in to speak to her properly till next week.
i sounded a bit cheeky on the email, but she and her previous workmate did both tell us these things were free so i might as well be a little cheeky and get help than be quiet and be skint!
just feel a bit daunted now esp since i qualified months ago, so will have to brush up on all standards for inspection..worried ill forget something..
and..
because ive been getting(not taking tabs anymoree) treat for PND..would that go against me? or even getting treatment for a lump in my breast?(non cancerous)

have you already had the required medical?

General consensus is anything in the past esp anything depression related seems to be disregarded. I know I've probably got a few more colourful bits in my notes, but all my doctor did was right a letter saying 'x is in good medical health and fitness' etc etc.

It's not cheeky to ask how it works regarding them paying for things, at the end of the day the council have money aside for it. There's no point you paying and them saying 'oh we have to pay so you're stuck now'

sorry no I just meant the form. Not a medical!

Yeah it took my doctor a while to get around to doing it but he was fairly cheap apparently (£25 to those who had to pay) locally some doctor charged £60!

Check with your dr if they will send it off, mine didn't they had it for about 3 weeks before I contacted them about something else and they told me I had to pick it up.

My grant was used like lunavix was I got all my fee's, ins, 1st aid and NCMA box. We got given a leaflet at the ICP to fill in and send back for them to sign and send off.

I'd keep at them until you find out, you don't want to pay out for it all to then find out you
can get it free.

Where abouts are you? Do you know if you're in a surestart area if you are you may be ebtitled to more

EvesMama · 10/08/2006 10:25

im in teesside..middlesbrough and although not 'my' area but most.. actaully all surrounding areas have surestart groups so i am certain i would fall into thier catagory!
docs receptionist just said to pop medical from in? and she pass it on?..would they bill me via invoice lataer?, should i ask or keep shtum incase she's made a mistake not telling me?

I missed out on all the surestart funding and toy boxes because the area finished about 1 or 2 streets away I was gutted! the daft thing is the surestart area that I missed out on is classed as a dearer and better area to live in than the estate I'm on.

I'd check when you take the form in if they will post it for you, or if you've already taken it in just ring in a couple of days to check whats happening.
