Never had an au pair thinking about hiring one

So I'm changing jobs soon. Current job very flexible - can work from home, evenings, weekends etc to make up hours when I leave early to pick ds up from school. Dh works shifts and often has to stay late to finish jobs.

Thinking that an au pair might be good for us as a family. We just have ds ( nearly 8) so the au pair would need to take him to school and pick up but would have the rest of the day to themselves. Would also need them to look after ds for bulk of school hols.

Is it reasonable to expect them to do bulk of school hols?

You'd need to book your DS into holiday clubs some of the time (maybe 3 times a week), but your au pair would pick up and collect from those and they wouldn't need to be full day ones. They generally do about 25ish hours a week.

It also depends on whether you've state school holidays or private ones.
Most au pairs also go home for Christmas.
