CM Club - do you ever wonder what the parents were thinking when they packed mindees lunch?

I only ask cos i'm curious what other parents send for their children's lunches at CM's, or do you all provide lunch.
Today for example the 2 boys i mind turned up with
A dairylea lunchable each
A dairylea dunker each
4 slices of bread
a punnet of peaches
2 small boxes of organix raisins
2 fat free yoghurts.
Yesterday it was a tin of beans and a tin of peaches.
Wednesday was
A packet of quavers each
A tin of tomato soup
2 fat free yoghurts and
2 dairylea dunkers.

One day a couple of weeks ago it was a packet of fallafel and a tin of tomatoes.

I sometimes get the impression that she pops into the shop on her way here and just grabs things. Thye are here for 10 hours, and sometimes what she sends is hardly enough for a 10 hour day, then other days its like she thinks they are going to be here for a week.

I was thinking about this today. I am on a really tight budget and i will have to send my ds to either a minder or the nursery full time. I dread to think what the staff might think of me if they see sausage rolls, one yoghurt and maybe a few bits of peppers because they need to be used and i simply do not know how much he will eat when he goes. He doesnt eat much but am happy to get things into him at all.

Maybe she out in the punnet to share, maybe she hinks you wont mind cooking. Are they happy, doing well?

Oh they are doing fine, and i wasn't having a go at anyone, i was just curious what other mindees get sent with to their CM's.
I just sometimes wonder why someone would buy organic food and then a dairylea lunchable ( which they don't eat BTW)

Mine comes with five alive and apple juice both big cartons almost everyday. Milk powder. Packet of bourbon /jaffa cakes/rich tea everyday. A whole box of cereal. Rice dinner, raisins, fruit jar, 2 fruit portions, youghurt. 2 cakes, banana and an orange.

This is exactly the reason i feed my mindee because i can feed mindee and dd the same food, knowing how its been prepared and thats its healthy, plus they get a good variety.

Although i have to admit today was a stranbge combination but i dont think they mind, infact they quite like a change.

Today was...
jam sandwiches (they asked for them and love them plus it was a one off - dp in hospital and m y head was a bit of shed worrying)
chocolate mousse (see above reason)
watermelon

I hope he is on the mend soon lovemygirls.

I wish my parents just let me provide the food, i have the two boys i mnetioned plus a 2 year old girl, and she screams the place down every lunch time wanting what they are having!

As both a childminder and a mum who uses a childminder for her own ds this is subject I often laugh about. Here I provide lots of homemade meals and fresh fruit and organic snacks etc etc. But when I take ds to his childminder it's like an episode of Ready Steady Cook as I empty out my carrier bag on her kitchen table. I usually bung her a tin of something and a potatoe and maybe a tomato or some pasta/rice with whatever else I hurriedly find in the Spar on the way to her house.
With lots of teenagers and a dog there are just never any leftovers here. Goodness knows what she must think of me. She's a star though.

I'd rather all the kids provided their own, or they all had it provided by me. Having a mix of who's eating what is a pain (although I always have a heart attack during school holidays when I go through a loaf of bread a day! Sometimes more!)

I suppose you never really know what they eat at home, but for me nutrition is so important. If I feed the children rubbish, it does tend to be evident in their behaviour. A parent recently commented that when he asked various CMs about their 'home cooked meals' I was the only one that didn't mention chicken nuggets... but then I have been known to give the odd fish finger/chicken nugget meal myself.

I'm lucky though. My ds is obsessed with hommous, and loves fruit more than junk, so this is what's in the house, and what I feed mindees. However I know lots of people with lo's far skinnier than my chunky ds, who are happy to let them eat crisps and jam sandwiches and processed cheese, as long as they're eating something!

hey whats wrong with jam sandwiches now? i mean obviously not all the time but now and again is ok, i remember being a kid and i had jam sarnies everyday with a pkt of hula hoops.

i do provide healthy stuff 9 times out of 10 but i also like to give them a choice and things they really like as well as making them try new things. its all about giving them a balanced diet
