CM CLUB: POORLY MINDEES

Please help me out here.........

Since Fri, I have been dealing with poorly children (fun start to summer hols!). On Monday we were supposed to be going to a farm park with local toddler group but all 3 children were too ill so we had a day indoors instead. Tuesday everyone still too ill to go out so did lots of arts and crafts indoors. Finally got out of the house yesterday, walking + 3 parks which the two 3 years old really enjoyed (as met up with friends) but the baby (well, now one year old) just cried and cried a lot of the time. Off her food and generally feeling rubbish but obviously can't talk to say so. Got in a right state yesterday through lack of sleep etc. and I told mum all about this when she collected her.

This morning they arrived at 6.45am as usual and mum said she'd been up every hour coughing but went back to sleep ok. Well, for the first hour she just SCREAMED the whole time, coughing and getting herself in a state. She clearly wanted cuddles etc. to sort of feel better but I can't spend 100% of my time doing this as needed to get ds ready, breakfast etc!

We were going to go to toddler group this morning but I'm not going to bother if she carries on like this (she has a very loud scream and we've been talked about for this before - that's for another thread! )

Sooooooo this ill 1 yr old is actually affecting the care of the other children and stopping us from going out as planned - needed more so after being in for couple of days. My policies do state that ill child should be collected/not come if going to affect the care of the others (worded better). I know she only has a cold with chesty cough but she really is in a state bless her.

Do you think I am right to say that parents should collect? Problem is that they haven't seen her during the day since Monday (as here 6.45am-6.30pm) so they haven't seen how bad she is in the day.

I'm such a softie and can't stand all of this stuff but it's now getting me down and it's really not fair on the other kids (who are also complaining of earache! )

Please tell me I'm right to get her sent home!!

Yes 100% right she should be sent home. Fwiw I'm like it to I find it hard to say no

Well, she should be arriving at work soon - works in city. Trying to get hold of her but no joy yet Think baby is just going off to sleep (put in cot).

IF I get parents saying that baby can spend most of day in bed, they probably think that makes it easier (not that simple if calling out and not always sleeping) but would you agree that this is also not acceptable as it still prevents us going out?

your very good looking after the 3 sick children in the first place
but if it is affecting you going out i wouldnt take her
maybe keep her today as parent has to travel quite a way but phone her at work and say she should stay at home tomorrow and see doc if needs be

Well, I don't turn kids away due to colds normally but I must say these have been nasty ones with temperatures, awful awful coughs and generally grumpiness. I didn't mind so much at the start as everyone was ill so noone was affected by not going out ifswim but now we would be out if baby wasn't so bad.

Now spoken to mum and she said she wouldn't have brought her if she didn't have such a busy week (runs own business) which sort of annoyed me as it shows she knew what it would be like and that she shouldn't have brought her.

Anyway, she's not quite so bad now she's had a little sleep so I've agreed to keep her here unless she gets like she did this morning in which case she'd have to collect her. She totally understood!

good
hope day goes better for you

Littlefish · 03/08/2006 13:41

As a parent, I wouldn't send my child to the cm if they had a temperature. I also know that my cm would phone me during the day if a temperature developed and I would come and take her home.

So glad this week is over! Just as the 4 kids are starting to get better, you guessed it, I'm coming down with it! I have no energy and so much I want to do with the kids next week to make up for a crappy week. I hope the worst is gone by Monday!

9 working days left til 2 weeks off - can't bloody wait!!!

thats tip you looking after poorly children then catching it yourself thats what parents dont think about (if we r off no money) and no childcare for them

ThePrisoner · 06/08/2006 23:34

I'm sure that it is written in our Standards that childminders are not allowed to get sick!!

looneytune · 07/08/2006 08:10

No, not taking day off sick for a cold, doesn't matter how bad. Luckily I feel a little better today
