Taking AP on holiday?

Mum and Dad have a flat 2 hours flight away.
Dd is nearly 6 and ds is 12 weeks.
I want to take ap with me to help with childcare and light housework.
Any ground rules?
We would be away for 7 days.
Dh would stay at home.

Does the AP want to go?
Does she have the correct travel documents/VISAs?
You should pay her travel insurance.
Will she be working any additional hours?
Will she still have her own bedroom?

Why would you need childcare on a weeks holiday?

Shamoy · 25/01/2014 20:12

Why is that any of your business soontobesix? There could be many reasons why op would need help!

When I was an au pair I didn't go on holiday with the family (We were in Brussels) but when I was a live in nanny in London I did. I worked many more hours than I would have at home. Don't remember any extra money, had 3 hours off in 2 weeks and it was too much.

I would take her but make sure she gets as much time off as she would at home and either give her extra days off once home or extra money.

NannyLouise29 · 25/01/2014 20:53

Make sure you keep track of her hours and give her sufficient time off or extra pay. Ask her what she'd prefer. Being on holiday with a family is still work.

WLondonNanny · 25/01/2014 22:12

I've travelled several times with the family I work for, and each home I

  • get my own room
  • get a few hours off each day
  • if I work extra hours get paid for them
  • get a bit of a bonus extra for being away from home/friends
  • all meals, transport etc paid for

You need to think of the au pair and treat her how you would treat her if she were back home..don't think because you're away she can just work every night! We need a break too, just like you probably wouldn't work to do all morning/day/night without a break!

Thanks everyone.
Ap is German.
I need help cos I'm recovering from a csection and severe SPD.
10 weeks on and still going downstairs on my bottom!
Good point about travel insurance.

Yes it's fine if she agrees. She will need her own room and extra pay for the inconvience of being away/ plus more if more hours than usual

Ap leapt at the offer.
