ok, have you sent off your application form?

dont worry when ofsted come they just want to see you have things in place and have thought about things you will do.

read through all your paperwork and check out the ncma website and come and ask questions lots and lots thats what i did when i was waiting to be registered. GOOD LUCK!!!

LoveMyGirls · 31/07/2006 09:57

meant to say you dont have to have actually done the stuff you say you will, like stair gates dont have to be up but you will put them up if there is a need, like when you are looking after children under 5

Evesmama · 31/07/2006 10:56

no not sent application form..i dont seem to have one?..will ring child car plus and enquire..how long roughly does it take for them to come back to you once form sent off??..just thinking of getting rest of house in order

You have about 3 months from start to finish, make a list of all the stuff you need to do then show them when they come around and do it all before your certificate comes through.

EvesMama · 31/07/2006 19:34

i keep hearing different stories on changes like no fire guards needed if you tell them you 'wont' use fire etc...
i know about plug sockets, cupboard locks, safety gate at bottom of stairs etc, but what things should i put inplace other than obvious?

Do you have smoke alarms insitu? They're very hot on that.

jellyjelly · 31/07/2006 19:54

Go around your garden and check the fencing if you need a gate etc. I had to spend abotu 400 on my garden. Write your policies which could take a while, get your book/logs ready. Buy a fire extinuisher/blanket.

lexiemum · 31/07/2006 20:03

get 2 first aid kits - one for car and one for house.

why not get someone else go around your house as a "prospective parent/mindee" and see what they would suggest. - bound to be something you forget.

as a parent I would expect to see a fireguard if looking for a place for a little one.

EvesMama · 31/07/2006 21:29

got smoke alarms but gunna get nice fireman to check em out, got fire extinguisher but heard its a blanket ill need?
good idea about a parent looking round!

emailed ccp for their advice..keep em coming youve been really helpful

I have a fire blanket in the kitchen and was told I had to move it down lower than it was because the children couldn't reach it!! Not sure what a 2yr old would do with it though.

Katymac · 31/07/2006 22:56

multiculturalism/equal opps/multiculturalism

x about 50 million for ofsted that is

ThePrisoner · 31/07/2006 23:20

Make written lists of anything and everything you might (or might not) have to do, or buy, or whatever. Ofsted like lots of planning!

EvesMama · 03/08/2006 19:48

I thought I wouldn't need a fire guard as mine is disconnected so I couldn't use it but its more for if they fall onto it.

When you look into first aid remember you need the longer peadiatric one not just a standard.

My CIP sent someone round a couple of weeks before my inspection and they looked at the sort of things OFSTED would look for and gave me loads of suggestions which helped loads. Maybe your CIS will offer this aswell

Good Luck!

Katymac · 06/08/2006 18:02

Careful about the guard - I was told that I needed one even if the fire wasn't used as the child could hit their head on the health.......OFSTED yet again

EvesMama · 16/08/2006 22:11

well i asked C I S today and she said if i say i never plan to use fire as heating is adequate, but if the need should ever arise, i will buy and install fire gurads, that will be fine!
as long as they know im aware and will change my plan if needs be, they will accept it?!
