Using a nanny and tax credits

I am thinking of employing a part time nanny for my son. I am eligible for working tax credits. If the nanny registers with Ofsted can I then claim the cost back through working tax credits?

Sorry my post wasn't very clear- if I use a nanny who is on the voluntary Ofsted childcare register does this meet the HMRC requirement of using registered or approved childcare in order to be eligible to claim some of the cost back through working tax credits?

Yes and I think you can include the cost of Employers NI and payroll admin in your cost figure.

Keep in mind that there is a max amount that tax credits will contribute, that you are responsible for paying the nanny regardless of if taxcredits gets the money to you in time or not.

It is either WTC2 or WTC5 booklet that mentions using tax credits for home child carer.

Agree a gross salary with the nanny. Tax credits will need the gross figure, not net.

Thanks. And what is the training that the nanny has to have done to meet the ofsted requirements.

Nanny will have to be first aod trained with a recent crb check and a recognised childcare qualification. Becoming registered doesnt need you to do a course just fill in details and then pay the few which i think is £103 for the year. If nanny isnt already registered and does so for you then usually splitting this fee 50:50 is the fairest way to do it.

What training does the nanny already have?

If you are recruiting, then advertise for someone who is already registered.
