Mother's help advice

Thank you all for helping me clarify that a mother's help is what I needed. Now that I know that, I am coming to you all for a bit more advice. I am totally new to this obviously and both DH and I would really like to be good employers.

We will need a part time mother's help from the beginning of April onwards. I'm not entirely sure how to write an ad for this as I have never written any employment ads before. And also, is £10/hr (we are in London) a decent rate or is it stingy/excessive?

Thank you for reading.

Hi

I had a mother's help for a few months after DS2 was born and it worked out very well for us all.

£10ph seems fair. I'd advertise for someone locally - on a local supermarket community noticeboard or newsagent's window. That way you get someone who lives nearby, so there aren't problems with commuting.

We asked for someone to help with taking care of the home, run local errands, help prepare the baby's food and laundry and join in general baby care and cuddles, alongside me.

We chose a local mum whose son was school age and wanted some extra cash now she was free during the day. She had no professional experience but was confident around young babies, knowledgeable about current baby products and what was worth getting etc. I'll never forget her building two IKEA storage units in about ten minutes flat. I was comatose with lack of sleep and it would have taken me longer just to open the packaging.

Hope you get someone as lovely as we did.

That sounds pretty much like what we want. Thanks.

I have a mother's help who I found through the local college. This probably wouldn't work if you want someone during the daytime- mine comes at tea time three times a week. It works well, she is on a child are course and wants to be a nanny. I emailed the college and they then emailed child care students with details of how to apply.

I'm also looking for a mother's help, so watching with interest!

that's a good idea, only connect.Unfortunately, we do need someone during the day as the reason we need one is because I am expecting DC3.

Worth checking colleges still though as my course was part time actually in campus.
