Is a 1 day a week Nanny worth the paperwork etc?

Hi

Our favoured nursery where DS went has stopped offering 4 day a week places. Despite my begging and reminding the about the £40K we spent with them over the past 4 years! they aren't budging on their new policy.

So we were thinking that a Nanny for the remaining day (me being wth DD & DS on the last day) would work and asking them to take & collect DS from school (instead of usual wraparound clubs) the money will be about the same.

Having looked on childcare.co.uk there appear to be lots of people looking for part-time roles. Of course the reality might be different.

However, looking at the whole employer thing looks like lots of work etc esp if it is just for a day. Anyone else done it?

Anything else I should consider about a 1 day a week position?

TIA

Agree a gross salary and use a payroll company, then there is little paperwork for you - the contract to agree, keeping track of holidays taken. Payroll company cost £100-250, shop around.
Employers NI is paid on a per job basis, so it will not be very much as for a one day a week job you won't be paying that much a week. Use MrAnchovy's PAYE calculator to get a feel for the cost. Put in the hours per week, gross pay per hour (or per week) and click calculate. Taxcode is not relevant as that affects take home pay, not cost to employer. Look at Gross Income + Employers NI, those are your basic costs.
Other costs to keep in mind are things like mileage payment, food on duty, activities budget.
