What to look for when choosing a childminder

I have 2 LOs, a DD (31months) and a DS (15 months). I've not worked for nearly 3 years since I took voluntary redundancy shortly after I had DD but am now applying for a local job and need to look into childcare. I have no clue where to start investigating and what to look for/consider when looking at various childminders.

Also, my DD currently goes to pre-school 2 mornings/ wk. She's been going since Sept and only just settled in and seems to be enjoying it. Would you keep her there and get childminder to do the drop and pick up, or ditch it and just stick with the childminder.

The job's hours are only 9-1, so only looking for half days, Mon- Fri. Do childminders do half days? And what do people do when they go on holiday? Do you have to take holidays at the same time?

Sorry, lots of questions..... TIA xx

Some CMs do half days and some pick up from pre schools. You'll need to phone round and ask really.

Most of the child minders I saw where happy to do half days. As for holidays I would say its best to try to time yours the same as theirs. Most child minders won't charge when they have a holiday but will charge when you do.

Most child minders will also do nursery pick ups etc but you will find most will still charge for for the hours they are at preschool as you need them to keep the place for you for before/after preschool.

As for finding one I would see as many as you can and go with your gut instinct.
