A little help needed please

Mum of my very nearly 8 yr old mindee, has told me her childcare plans have fallen through for her 3 1/2 yr old.......I sort of knew they would, as I talk to the other childminder.......

Would I have him from 1 -6.15 ish, from today, txt sent yesterday morning.
for the next 6 mths, when in September when he goes up to Reception, when he will then with me from 3.15-615ish.
Its no problem at all, apart from the fact I was never intending to take on another EYFS child again..EVER..

So, I have had no EYFS children in approx 4 1/2 years, and although I have done my eyfs training, due to the fact that I was never gong to take on another EYFs child, I have no idea now, what paper work, learning journeys etc etc I should have in place.

So, can any one help me with a list of stuff I should have in place, as the last inspection I had, was a 'no children on roll' .. and now having an eyfs child 'on roll' for the next 6mths, I will have to call Ofsted and that is bound to trigger an inspection.

Is the child at nursery before they come to you? If so then you should be able to liaise with nursery about learning and development etc.

For the EYFS children in my care, I have:
Observations - spontaneous and planned ones
Learning journeys which includes all about me form filled out by parent and/or childminder, pictures, any work the child has done etc.
I works alongside the development matters booklet and use the checklist to tick the age and stage the child has met and set a next steps target on observations to help them develop/achieve even more.

Could go on and on and on but you need to speak with your Development Officer or Local Authority and read up on it first!

It's fine once you get started!

Lo is attending the nursery at our local primary school, breakfast club then 8.50 - 12.50 when I go pick him up.
I then have him & his very almost 8yr old sibling till gone 6pm every evening. plus a 7, a 8, and a9yr old.

We no longer have DOs they were done away with a while ago.

If LO is attending nursery everyday for 4 hours then I think you could reasonably argue this is their main place of care & in your shoes I would:

Speak to nursery & ask how you can work in partnership with them as LO's secondary carer (get mum's permission first) and then keep records of any correspondence, discussions for Ofsted purposes.

Do an initial 'baseline' observation so you have a starting point - nothing too fancy just a couple of lines for each area stating where LO is at in thier development & show Ofsted you understand what they are & know where you are heading.

Aim to do 1 observation per month & try to tie it into as many AOL as possible!!

Keep a scrap book of photos, arts & crafts and write in any major developmental achievements (speaking, potty training, counting etc) I would aim for 1 entry per week but this could literally just be sticking in a photo of artwork or LO riding a bike etc

In reality, you will have all of 2 hours a day in which to interact in a 'meaningful' way before school run after which they will no doubt just want to play with sibling/older ones have a snack/tea & get ready to leave however, Ofsted will want to see you are following EYFS and this does mean paying lip-service to their system!

Phoebe your post is in my opinion is spot on.
I see school as primary carer, and as you say 2 hours is in reality what he'll get from me.
as in my experience some of my after schoolers are just as demanding in wanting some attention.

He will be going up to Reception in September, he will 4.3 by then. Do I treat him as an over 5 then? Do I still need to track him, Ob's etc

He and and his sibling are term time only.
