Wanting some advice for a friend?

My friend has recently graduated with a Early years education degree in London and has decided she would like to become a nanny. The only problem is- she has a very minor disability.

She has very minor cerebral palsy (sorry if I have misspelt, relying on auto correct). Can walk fine etc, pick things up, do day to day chores etc. The only restriction she has- is she has an adapted car licence.

She actually came to me for advice on the situation as I have been on both sides of the table- I have worked as one myself, and also hired them.

She fears as soon as she mentions a disability she won't have a chance of getting a job no matter how much she stresses how minor it is.

I gave her my honest opinion which was that I did not know- what do others think?

She has also told me she is debating just lying about the fact of having a driving licence as that will be the only glaring obvious factor (her licence is marked that she needs an altered acceleration system in the car) but I told her I think that's wrong- again, what do people think?

Don't lie about driving licence.
Maybe speak with a disability organisation about how to approach this?

Does she have her own car to use? Has she got several years driving experience?

If so then driving is not going to be a big issue. I would see it being an issue if the employer had to provide an adapted car.

She needs to be clear about what she can and can't do. Caring for children can be a physical job, involves lifting heavy objects (toddlers), pushing buggy, carrying bags, running after an escapee.

As long as she is happy to use her own car she should be okay once she has experience. I have fibromyalgia and make it very clear at interview that I have got an illness but I have never had a day off due to it and it doesn't affect my work as I adapt. I have managed to get jobs and my nanny agency were really good about it too. But it would depend how her cp affects her on a day to day basis. She just needs to be up front About it and be prepared to answer questions.
