Hello ladies,

Help please with registering as self-employed...due to start in two weeks only after school kids so far.

Do I just ring HMRC and inform them say next week?

Re tax return...can I claim back the set up fees etc that I paid out for in the summer? Or will this be done next year?

Do I inform tax credits...yes obviously its additional income but not yet 16 hours pw...

Also is there a list of what I can claim for eg, heating etc?

Im so confused ans wondering if I should just get up and running and pay an accountant?

Any CMs - honest truth re book keeping/tax returns...is it hard?!

thankyou Grin

Lucy, it's me again...sorry, not sure what name to use here haha...,sorry !
I'm also in the rainy south :) folkestone !
I just saw this advert today when I logged into the Local Pacey area too. but it's gonna be worth to participate tomorrow.

I am studying like crazy since October, still waiting for the inspection. Have you already had yours ? I had the health environment inspection in my kitchen so I can be able to offer meals and happily been awarded with the maximum rate of 5 :)
But im still working on my prices etc....hard work tough...

lucyfluff · 07/01/2014 16:42

Haha!! Grin

Oh its nasty weather isnt it!! I will have to look for that Pacey local thing - it sounds helpful Smile I found a new area on there website that you advertise on too which gives you a webpage and loads of resources if that helps you Smile

Yes I had my Ofsted visit before xmas, that was the best bit the lady was lovely! I found the whole application very long waiting for refs and checks I know all necessary but when I started the course in summer they said dont apply until you have completed it. Well I did the course in four weeks then waited five months for Ofsted Confused

How are you getting on with the course etc??

hohoho 5 months ?? that's a long time.
Well, Iam also not in a hurry to start the business, but the thing is that I subscribed to pacey to get help with policies and all my paperwork etc, and they give you 3 months to send them the Ofsted registration number, my time will end in feb and I'm pretty sure I wont get it by there haha...Started to be desperate after the new year, but I called pacey today and they solved that for me....
I also had many problems with all these checks etc, the post office sent everything wrong and I had to make everything again plus the DBS is taking ages...a waste of time, but necessary for sure.
Where are you located ?
I don't know any other childminder around here to change infos and experiences, maybe we could change our e-mails to talk more if you want.

Strange that ofsted didn't care about the kitchen inspection.
I'm thinking about changing $5 with all the meals and snacks included.

lucyfluff · 07/01/2014 17:48

Yeah the wait for Ofsted was crazy! My refs got lost so resent them, then they wrote to each of them double checking who they were!!! DBS got stuck for 8 weeks with the police check - Im a qualified primary school teacher so have had them done previously!!! The only thing was a name change from getting married so maybe thats why??!!

Im in Southampton and have quite a few childminders in my area, its nice so I can get advice etc about stuff and they said they would pass on any business to me Smile I am hoping to get a child similar age to my son to look after.

Have got your inbox - will send you an email when I get five mins. If you need any help with inspection let me know Smile

I'm just waiting for DBS as well, done the courses, first aid, food safety, safeguarding children, fire safety etc haha....not all mandatory but got a promotion on line and paid for all...
I also volunteer in a primary school and had my DBS 3 months ago, but they couldnt use the same.
I use to go to Southampton sometimes, my bf's family lives there :) but I thought you could be closer hehe

That's fine, nice to meet you and keep in touch please.
By the way, how did you get in touch with those childminders in your area ? were they friendly to your approach and to give you some advices ?

Sure I will need some clues for the inspection :) as I feel very nervours about it yet. hopefully i will have a nice inspector too.

Thank you very much !

lucyfluff · 07/01/2014 18:17

Awww you will be fine Smile just incase they dont tell you, on ofsteds website they have a document about preparing for the inspection. Its basically a list of about 20 questions they will go through covering aspects of eyfs/safeguarding....make sure you print it off and go through it prior to them coming. I had no idea about it but the lady rang me a week before and said thats what she will ask me and it took ages!!!! She was here for three hours Smile

I think our area is quite high in demand for childcare provision, my course was subsidised to encourage people to take it up!!! I have 15 childminders at our local school and they have set up groups etc in the area which is really nice, plus they have a few older ladies who are near retirement and have been helpful when I was looking into it all Grin

Im sure once you get started you will find other local childminders Smile will email you soon !!!

Studyingnonstop · 07/01/2014 19:28

I heard about it and went through this document on my pacey course (the introduction course), Will read it again and again ...thanks !
I'm not sure how is the demand here, but will know soon hehe
Luck you have it subsidised, I had to pay for everything. I hope I find a group around here to help me as well.

Spk soon, thank you again for your attention !

xx

Also have a look at the Childcare Business Grants Scheme

In Kent they pay you back £ 250 as soon as you are registered by ofsted.
Not sure if it's for your area too, but it's for childminders pay for the initial expenses on setting up a childminder setting. it's easy to apply and money come very soon in your account...it's not my case yet, but someone who have already been registered just received the monie :)

:)
