Holiday entitlement and sick pay for afterschool nanny

MsMarshmallow · 04/01/2014 17:47

We are going to hire a part-time nanny 3 days per week, 3 hours per day (that is 9 hours in total per week). Am trying to sort out her contract, based on a template I downloaded.

Could anyone advise on what the normal / standard/ and fair thing when it comes to holiday entitlement and sick pay?

Many thanks

Minimum holiday is 5.6 weeks. So 5.6 x 9 hours = 55.4 hours.

However it may not be as simple as that - are they always going to do 9 hours a week, or are there more hours such as during school holidays?

5.6 weeks also includes bank holidays so if the nanny is scheduled to work eg mondays but is given the bsnk holiday Monday off then 3hours is deducted from the total leave hours.

As for sick pay you can choose to pay fully or ssp only. You could agree to just a set number of paid casual sick days.

what is ssp only?

Statutory Sick Pay

It would help to know if nanny is term time only, or if they are working 9 hours all year, or if they will do different hours during school holidays.

Holiday entitlement for term-time only or a mix of hours can be tricky.
