Worked alongside an au pair today & yesterday for a family I adhoc for as a nanny.

The au pair kept undermining me although she had been told I was in charge & my say goes

She was rude to the children - playing nicely (be it a bit loud) told them to shut up as she can't hear her tv

One of the children was sick so she left him stood in it until I was finished with the other child as she doesn't do sick

At dinner time today one of them said he didn't like the mash potato so I asked him to eat 4 big spoons & that was it - she then refused him a pudding as he hadn't eaten it all

She is due to leave in about a weeks time as the mum doesn't like her or trust her

I can't decide whether to say something & add to her stress/worry of the au pair being there or just keep quiet

I would say something but that's me

Obv the family have concerns hence why she is leaving

Ap obv felt under minded havin you there - tbh why was she there if you were as well - if I were the family I would have let we have that time off and just had you too many cooks etc

I was there as on Monday 2 of the 4 children were ill & yesterday all 4 were ill and the au pair isn't trusted with them. They asked the au pair to work the extra hours to give me an extra pair of hands.

Sounds like they are better off without her

Must be hard as a parent - if you don't trust someone / your child carer but keep them on till they leave

A daily nanny you would give notice too and maybe pay off - but you can't chuck a live in nanny/ap onto the streets

Or maybe some do ........

Hope kiddiwinks feel better soon. Lots of nasty bugs about at the mo :(

I wouldn't bother. They already don't like or trust her, what difference will it make if you tell them she got on your nerves? Unless you want to tell them that you'd rather she didn't work alongside you?

ShootMyMIL · 11/12/2013 14:19

I don't think it will make any difference apart from cause more stress & worry

Does she help at all or is her working making things more difficult for you?

If it is then maybe say that it might be easier for you to work alone and for her to have the last week off
