I'm thinking of hiring an assistant childminder, how much should I pay her/him ?

I have been considering it for a while as I'm feeling a bit lonely sometimes, especially at winter time when we go out less. What are all the implications and how much should I pay her ? I'm based in London, I do not want to pay her/him just the minimum as I want her/him to stay !

Don't forget you have feed them as well.

Yes for the food, it goes without saying and we could take turn cooking !

It will depend if you want to increase number of children to cover their salary. You will also be an employer-this would put me off.

If you are in west London come and see me!

I would think you would have to pay at least minimum wage. Although I'm not sure how much that is. Also employers ni and holiday pay would need to be covered, which would add up the total bill.

If you are lonely, would it be better to arrange to meet up with some other childminders, nannies or mums? I had an assistant and she was more trouble than she was worth! Unless it's a really good friend who you have known for years I wouldn't bother.
