Nanny has an OFSTED inspection

Well, I didn't expect this. Maybe I'm daft.
My nanny is OFSTED registered so that I can pay her in childcare vouchers. She's just been told she has an inspection on Thursday. Clearly she's working in our home most of the time.

Any idea what's involved or what she needs to prepare? I don't want to have to put fireblankets on walls etc :-)

You need to give written permission for the inspector to come into your home. Have they sent a form to complete?

Nanny needs to show paperwork, like qualifications certificates, first aid training, insurance.

Inspector is likely to ask nanny about safe guarding children - who they would contact if they had a concern about a child, discipline methods used.

Inspector may ask about different cultures, though not sure what specifically.

Thanks. Nothing too onerous then.... Grin

OFSTED are there to inspect her, not you, and you can in theory refuse to let the inspector in (although there's no real reason to).

Useful leaflet - you need to scroll down but it's Guide to inspections, and based on OFSTED's requirements for registration. If she is prepared for everything suggested it'll be fine but they won't ask everything.

I had an OFSTED inspection about 3 months ago. To be honest it was a real waste of time as the guidelines book they use are for childminding and nannying so the person inspecting me had to skim through huge chunks of the folder and in the end she only asked me around 6 questions that were relevant to being a nanny.
She asked me if I knew who I would contact if I felt the children were being abused or had concerns of neglect etc. She asked me about my standard safety practices in the home, but even with that question we couldn't really go into lots of detail as it's my bosses house and their children so up to them how many plug socket covers they have, stair gates etc. I think she also asked me about how I give each child enough attention and meet their needs.
There's nothing to sweat over, it's not make or break as when it comes down to it a family has the right to employ who they want and they hire on their gut feeling about a nanny. Child minders have stricter rules as they are based in their houses.
I'm all for stricter regulations and screenings of nannies but OFSTED really need to sort it out and get an inspection folder just for nannies with relevant questions not just flipping through the childminders folder and picking out questions which can be used.
