I am registered childminder and thinking of getting a cleaner does she need crb check?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No, not going to be left alone with children.

Cleaners come, cleaners go, some may last a while others may not. So unless they become a permanent feature, I can't see the regulator requiring them to have a DBS check, as long as they are never alone with children.

Could cleaner come at a time when children are not present? That way they are never in contact with minded children.

Some cleaners will have a CRB/DBS check as cleaning agencies may have done that, so if that is the case make a note of the disclosure number if they let you.

Certainly check ID and make a record of basics like name, address.

Ask regulator for advise if cleaner stays several months, as then they become a frequent visitor. DBS check will cost you, probably around £60.

Mine comes when we are out at toddlers. Never sees the children.

I would get the cleaner to come when the children are not there. It'll be a nightmare trying to clean around the children, she'll get more done in less time if she has an empty house.

Sorry to hijack can you put a cleaner down as an allowable expense?

Cindy34 · 23/11/2013 13:05

I think it is only if the cleaner is cleaning areas used by mindees.

If cleaning entire house, perhaps put through a percentage such as 30%.

Probably best to talk to accountant if you use one.

MrAnchovy wrote about what is permitted back in Nov 2011 so probably good idea to read that.
