We currently send kids to nursery, but will need to change to a nanny shortly. Just wondered if u can pay nannies childcare vouchers, as that is a bit of a saving for us at the moment

yes if they're Ofsted registered. It's not overly difficult to become Ofsted reg'd if they're not already, and costs about £120 / year for the registration.

It depends if your in Scotland then you can't use them but you can in England.

Oh great thanks for quick replies. I am Scottish but I live in England!

I'll ask for ofstead registered when I advertise then.

Thanks for your help

even if they're not, it's not hard to get the registration - so registered or willing to become so. We're in the process of getting ours registered. Can collect the vouchers in the meantime while she's in process of registering and then pay them in one lump as soon as she is registered. Reckon with the courses she's had to do, police check and first aid it will have taken up to 3mths in total (shes doing the course part time / distance learning)

As others have said don't necessary cut out any nannies that aren't already registered as there is planety of nannies that aren't. And the whole process can only take a few months. And as a previous poster said you can stack them up and pay out. That's what had to happen to me whilst my employer waited for my registration to come through. And most employers would pay for the registration as it's no benefit for the nanny to be em

Whoops ment to carry on it's no benefit for the nanny to be registered currently.

Yes it's easy for the nanny to get OFSTED registered - mine wasn't when we appointed her but is now. It took a couple of months. They need a criminal records check, a first aid qualification and a childcare qualification. I think it was about £80 which I paid.

You used to be able to use them in Scotland by recruiting the nanny via an agency. Has that now changed LittleBairn?

Nanny25 · 08/11/2013 20:30

You can use vouchers in Scotland. It is done through an agency. You don't have to be recruited through an agency though.

In England, the cost of nanny registration with Ofsted is currently:

£103 used to be the annual fee cost for registration on the voluntary part of the childcare register. I think this is still the fee as it is set in legislation. This could be changed at some point by Government amending the legislation.

DBS check is extra, cost details vary depending on how it is done, details are here in the Ofsted DBS FAQ.

Nanny needs to have public liability insurance... cost varies, often around £70.

The nanny must meet other conditions of the scheme, such as the training requirements (Common Core Skills) and Paediatric First Aid.

Thanks Nanny25... so the agency processes the application in some way, for which I guess there is a charge.

LittleBairn · 08/11/2013 20:40

nannynick for some reason that wasn't being accepted a few years ago. My boss and I tried every avenue and had very long convos with them but still couldn't make it happen.

We did try and go through an Agency, I was already registed with them and they did my CBR (old style ones)each year and I'm registered with paediatric first aid certificate but still it wasn't being accepted.
I'm not sure if the system has changed. At the time we wondered if they were just unused to using the vouchers for nannies because all the info we read said we should be able to do it but in reality it didn't happen.

I know I met another nanny a while ago on MN who had the same experience.

Nanny25 · 09/11/2013 08:43

My employer went through the process 4 years ago and again my new employer this year.
It was all a bit confusing but I think basically the employer pays the agency a fee to have things set up to gain a certificate with a Care Inspectorate number which is needed for the vouchers.
I think!!
