Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have an au pair contract that they have successfully used for a good amount of time, something that covers most things including holidays and duties?

We are newbies to au-pairs and have a German girl starting in January 2014.

Also any tips for newbie host family's would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks guys!

A contract for an au pair, I don't believe is legally binding. Maybe they are in the uk, certainly not here in aus! Just to be aware... Best to lay out in simple terms that you will get x weeks holiday pro rata. If you choose to leave please try and give x weeks notice. From our experience I'm happy for an au pair who is unhappy to go. ASAP! Nothing worse for me or my kids than a sulking sultry unhappy au pair! Wink

They are in the UK because there isn't an au pair programme, which defaults them to an employment relationship. Pretty much any contract which says it's a contract of employment is biding under UK law as long as the right stuff is in it and the person has the right to take the job. EU legislation means you can't discriminate between someone on grounds of nationality so if you'd expect it to apply to a British citizen it will apply to an EU national, and once that precedent is set (because the UK has a case law system) it's there until someone comes up with a really good argument to overturn it.
