I don't think you can exclude on the basis of loose poos (although I would tempted because if obviously we as childminders get ill we lose a lot of money and have to let other parents down as well).

Tell, her mum, ask her if she can shed any light on it (the child might have eaten a whole punnet of grapes, for example, or eaten something she is mildly intolerant to).

You can then take the opportunity to remind the mum about your sickness policy, and warn her not to send her child if things worsen at all.

Good luck!!

If there's no explanation (teething, too much fruit - as mentioned before, a bad cold, or whatever), then you should exclude as with and other sickness and diarrhoea. Otherwise you and all your other mindees could get ill.

ReetPetit · 30/10/2013 22:53

definitely exclude! the fact the child is in nappies is irrelevant. If anything it probably puts you more at risk as you are handling nappies/using changing mats etc - even with gloves and anti bac gel, upset stomachs spread like wildlife. I have been a victim of this many times, and at the end of the day, if you cant work you lose money.

I send home after one loose stool. I would not be taking the child back tomorrow. I have a 48 hour sickness/diarrhoea policy.

I find it really difficult to exclude babies with loose poos. Generally parents have a valid reason for them, (which may or may not be correct) and you don't know if that is correct till its to late and everyone is ill. Sick is much easier to explain (although harder to deal with) with regards to keeping them off I find.

Hmm, reetpetit and HSMM are right, and tougher than me!

If it was actually liquid and not just squishier than normal, I would exclude. (Sorry to be so graphic at breakfast time.)

Greenbananas - after 14 yrs of seeing a sickness bug spread round my setting only for a parent to say, "oh yes, he was sick Sunday night" I have got quite tough and send out regular reminders. Just before Christmas one little boy ended up in A&E after playing with a child who had been sent in ill.

Our nursery sends LO home for two loose poohs if that's any help x

ReetPetit · 31/10/2013 08:26

My post should have said after 2 loose stools, sorry. I inform parents after 1 so that they are prepared and if child goes again i ask for collection asap.

PhoebeMcPeePee · 31/10/2013 08:58

I also alert parent after the first episode then ask to be collected on the 2nd. I've been caught out (& lost a week's pay whilst I & my family suffered) believing parents insistence that it's teething/too much fruit etc & now take a very firm stance on suspect tummy bugs. If you know the child well IMO you can tell between being a a bit loose from change in diet to being suspect tummy bug.

weekendgirl66 · 31/10/2013 10:49

i did explain the situation to mom on collection and explained my poilicies AGAIN!,, I did also say na nursery would exclude, and asked her not to send if it continued, Dad deliverd this morning saying no problems after 4 nappy's, however i have had another not very nice nappy and txt mom to let her know ( this is our normal way of communication,, ) what do i say?? I find this so so very upsetting are they blatantly lying to me?? Should i call her and ASk for collection??

Yes, call and say that she needs to be collected immediately. I wouldn't be happy about that if I were a CM!

ReetPetit · 31/10/2013 14:28

yes, you should. they are lying. This is the kind of thing that really wants to make me give up!! Hope they have collected her by now and you are not all infected Sad make sure you Milton everything she has been in contact with.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/10/2013 17:50

Def ask to be collected and assume if not there within the hour then the back up person would be contacted

Tho if infectious or contagious then that hour or so till parent arrives can seriously infect all charges and possibly yourself and causing loss of earnings
