A live in part time nanny? Her hours and duties will be exactly the same as an au pair, but she is british. She is a student and has little childcare experience.

Why is she a nanny then? Being British isn't the distinction between an au pair and a nanny. She's a British au pair by the sounds of it.

I guess she is a british au pair, but the what is the difference between that and a part time live-in nanny. Should i work out an hourly wage times the number of hours minus the value of the board and lodging or should i just pay her like an au pair?

A nanny will be either qualified or experienced or both. They will have childcare experience. They will be first aid trained and CRB checked. They will be insured. They will probably be Oftsed registered. Their skills, duties and responsibilities will be well beyond that of an au pair.

If she is an au pair pay her like an au pair.

What is she expecting? What is the differential between the two scenarios?

Are they living in 7 days per week? Are they working say 25 hours per week? If so to both, then could it not be done as it would be for an au-pair? If hours worked are higher, then decide a rate for the hours.

Accommodation offset is not very much.

I got the same the family were intending to pay the au pair when I did that, it was my choice to stay in the UK after all!

I have a friend who wanted to move up to London from Cornwall and found the easiest way was a take an Au Pair position- same hours, same pay, same accommodation as a foreign Au Pair. She did a normal Au Pair term then found it so much easier to find a place to live and a job, from a 'home-base'. She was inexperienced, a teen, not qualified.

For the same reasons I started off as a live-in nanny. Live-in was never an end goal but a start to my longer term plans. However I was qualified and experienced at that point, mid 20s, and worked full time for nanny wages.
