Babysitting rates Brighton

I had an interview recently for a babysitting service and the ;lady running that part of it told me that I am undercharging for babysitting could get the same rate that she does: £8ph. I then interviewed with a childcare service who gave me an idea of their childcarer's rates and that their cheapest person charges £7.50ph for babysitting after 6/7pm. I charge £7 currently after 7.

I used to get £8ph from my previous employer, I dropped that to £7 when I left them in line with my hourly rate otherwise. I have one family who pay me £8 now as it's an ad-hoc/temping position and they set the rate before speaking to me and I agreed it. I've had one enquiry this week where I said £8ph and have heard nothing back. I now have another inquiry and have no clue whether to up my price to £8 or keep it at £7.

Is £8ph too much for Brighton? I charge it after midnight too which apparently is rare. My temping/ad-hoc rate before midnight is £10ph (or £9ph for people close to me as I don't need to factor in travel costs).

I'm a nanny, 3 years experience nannying with 2 of those in SEN nannying, scout leader, previous childcare experience too.

Sitters agency babysitters get paid £6.35 ph during the week & I think £6.50 at weekends in Brighton, so I would say that £8 is too high & I would stay at £7 ph.

I know, but Sitters local co-ordinator told me that for private work I should charge more as did the At Home Childcare Service, which is why I'm in a muddle about rates Confused

Dd charges 7 ph, not more after midnight, BUT she is only 18 and no qualifications in childcare

Shock Wow, that's good for an 18yo! I will try £8 as then it covers diesel costs and parking a bit better too. Once those get knocked off I'm sometimes only really 'earning' £5/6 an hour before tax.

she drives too so covers that cost, and she is good with kids :)
