Hi All

We are hiring a nanny / help to look after our 5 year girl. And want to get feedback on how much to pay.

We require someone for 6-7 hours everyday for 5 days a week and during term / summer holidays for even longer (10 hours). We are open to all options - live out / live in nanny. In terms of work it will involve looking after our girl, picking her up from school and housework. We are not looking for some one who does everything for us e.g. does grocery shopping, organizing play dates etc. Only someone looks after our girl well, keep her engaged and helps out in the house.

We have not had a nanny before and want to get some advice from parents on how much it costs under each option and what are the options that in people's view works in terms of live-in live out.

thanks

J

Outside of major cities, £8-11 gross per hour. In a city that can increase especially in London, say another 2-3 an hour.

Decide if you want live in or out. Live in salary can be less but they will be at your home 24/7 and you provide all food/drink and washing facilities so getting a true cost figure is hard.

If live out then be open to having a nanny who has their own child as the hours of work could suit them.

Agree a Gross salary - salary before tax&ni deductions. Don't forget to calculate your full costs as the employer, see other threads for more about costs of employing a nanny.
