Childminding for only 1.5 hours per day

A friend has asked me to look after her two children aged 5 and 7 before school from 7.30am to 9.00am every day and has said she will pay me £15 per day.

I have read the Ofsted factsheet "Registration not required" and it seems that it is legal to look after children in your own home for up to 2 hours per day and be paid.

I just wanted to check I have understood this correctly - can I legally look after these two children for 1.5 hours per day before school in my home and be paid for it?

Just for the record, I would never accept cash in hand and would ask for the money to be paid direct into my bank account and would obviously declare this income on a self-assessment form.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes, that does not breach childcare legislation.

If you want to look up precise wording of the legislation, it is in the Childcare Act 2006.

I would however suggest that you discuss with your friend what happens if the school is closed for any reason (teacher strike, snow day).

Thanks a lot Cindy. Yes I will talk to my friend about the details.

I take it I would need to register as a self-employed person to do this job?
