Got first mindee (only 8 hours a week) after 4 months, second mindees (30 hours, so a half decent income) two or three weeks later. Then didn't get after school mindees for another 7 months, when 3 came at once!

HenniPenni · 03/07/2006 20:25

First mindees were schoolies after 6 months, a further 4 months later I got a part time mindee, and then another schoolie, then finally 18months later I have got a fulltime toddler starting and a 8month baby too.

Yup, in the over a year I've lived here I've only had one temp. little boy and now a p/t little boy who started this year.

Isyhan · 03/07/2006 21:04

Oh I suppose I should just chill then. Ive just been put on early years website this week so that may help.

3 months got my (only) full time mindee not looking at the mo though have had a few enquires

ThePrisoner · 03/07/2006 23:44

I still think that word-of-mouth is often your biggest help, so make sure that you are out-and-about, and also get to know all the more-established childminders!!

looneytune · 04/07/2006 07:06

First email was within 24 hrs from mumsnet. Another after 8 days of reg, started 4 weeks later (google search, found website), next was after 6 weeks of reg (this is when met her, can't remember when called) and this was via a poster in Asda and she'd seen my website, this resulted in 3 mindees starting. This made me full so haven't got a note of any other calls, silly me hasn't been logging each one. I will say though that it took AGES for my first call via CIS so definitely do as much as your own advertising as possible and spread the word as TP says.

I'm sure you'll get some calls from parents panicking about summer holiday care!

Good luck!

LoveMyGirls · 04/07/2006 09:01

ive been reg since end of april and got my 1st pt mindee in may and then another ft in june. have had a few calls but they either cancelled coming to see me or they werent the ages for me to take them on.

Isyhan · 04/07/2006 09:42

thanks for your support. the other mums in my older daughters class are putting the word around. it doesnt help that tescos and somerfield wont let me advertise and went i went into the school nursery she said ' i cant help because i dont know if youre registered' what does she think i am some sort of bogus childminder?

OP posts:
looneytune · 04/07/2006 10:26

can't you show the nursery your certificate?

Isyhan · 04/07/2006 11:48

yes Im taking it in. Its just frustrating that when you go round advertising youre made to feel as though you are inconveniencing people. Anyone would think I was setting up a call girl service or something!!

I know Have you tried local shop windows? I've had calls through those adverts too! Presume you've tried the advertising tips thread?

Sorry can't help, just give it time.

Isyhan · 05/07/2006 08:24

well what do you know I had a call yesterday from a lady who had seen my advert in local post office and another mum wanting me to do pick up from school.

looneytune · 05/07/2006 09:58

Cool!

ThePrisoner · 05/07/2006 21:39

You'll be fighting them off soon, and posting questions on the best way you can turn people away!

Isyhan · 05/07/2006 22:02

Mmm hope so!

Why won't Tesco or Somerfield let you advertise? There are notices in my local Tesco all the time!

Isyhan · 07/07/2006 10:32

It is a joke really. At tescos I said 'but you have adverts up for nursing homes advertising for staff and she said yes but thats providing a community service and I said 'so childminding isnt then!' and she couldnt answer. She just said no. At Sommerfield she said 'we dont advertise for small businesses and I said but theres an advert up for babysitting and cleaners and she said 'well Im taking them down today.'Two weeks later they are still there.

I had the same problem at Morrisons - loads of space on the notice board & he said it was only for charities & communities. I said it was useful information for the community & a vast proportion of his customers but he wouldn't listen.

Occurred to me since could ask to put it up in STAFF room or give to personnel/human resources department? Might be worth finding out which childcare vouchers these shops use & sending them posters saying you accept their vouchers?

Isyhan · 07/07/2006 13:19

its sublime to ridiculous ive just had a call from a lady wanting fulltime care for twins born in may!
