Au pair - where to start ?

Looking for some advice, I am going back to work, likely be be 4 x 8 hour shifts a week, hours vary week to week but always aware we'll in advance. Probably a week of 4 night shifts, a week with two dayshifts during the week and two at the weekend, a week with two blackbirds during the week and two at the weekend and one with four dayshifts during the week.

DH WOULD be home by 6 every evening so I'd AP would work 2-6 pm twice a week, or on a dayshift nursery drop off and school run between 8 and 9 then then pick up 12.30 until 6pm. When I'm on nights I'd hope to sleep for 5 hours then another two when DH home.

AP would have every weekend off, we wouldn't require week night babysitting.

I'd do all meal prep, AP would do their own washing and ironing? Car, own room and bathroom provided.

Does this sound ok? We are 30 mins from nearest city, 20 mins nearest college and 10 from nearest village. I would provide and run a car with one tank of fuel a week and give AP my own car for childcare related activities.

I have no idea what to pay, and if this is a good set up or not and any help would be appreciated... Smile

This is a good set up. I was about to say that she wouldn't have chance to do English classes because of changing schedule and then saw that she is free after 6 all the time, so she can do evening classes.

Pocket money amount depends on location - in London agencies usually advise from 70 to 90 GBP.

Do you have night buses running in your area? Au pairs usually like going out - that could be the only obstacle if you live driving distance from any area to go out in.
Having said that uou generously provide one tank of fuel per week, so the more mature ones would get interested anyway.

Thanks mikulkin, have registered with aupair world. Probably silly but does anyone know if an AP would be happy to be home alone with DH and kids when I'm on nights? I'm so new to this and don't know anyone with an au pair!
