Hello everyone, in need of some of your great advice again. I've had an enquiry from a teacher who would like to come for a visit. It's for a full time space but does not require school holidays. What would you/do you charge for this? thanks.

depends how it fits with you I think. I'm lucky as I have a term-time only contract with my childminder as she fills the places in the holidays with older children, but I have heard of either full or half-price charged as HM2 says.

I am a teacher and am lucky to have a childminder who doesn't want to work school holidays; however I would expect atleast half rates, if not full rates. When I used a nursery I obviously had to pay for every day apart from the nursery's annual closure, so I used to send her from time to time to keep her in the groove and to get some jobs done. So if you were to charge the teacher the full rate, she might send the child some days iyswim

I am a childminder who minds teachers children as well as others. I do not charge for school holidays as I didnt think it was necessary, we all charge differently its entirley up to you. There are no rules that say you have to or not just go with what you think is right for you.

I am a teacher and never paid cm fees for school holidays. My cm would take older kids who's parents worked during holidays so she got paid that way. Plus she used to take a break too...

I am a teacher and although I never used a cm I did enquire and ws told full rates. Fair enough in my mind. You can't take another child on in the hols. I get paid in the hols even though I'm not working so shy shouldn't you. Charge full rates

I mind several schoolchildren, some of whom have parents who are teachers, but I offer them all the same package - a set term-time contract, which also includes a "pay only for the hours that you do in the school holidays" bit.

I only do this this as I have other children who usually come only in the school holidays.

This suits me now as I have enough children overall to keep me very busy. I think that a lot of the minders I know would probably charge something if a place is not needed in the holidays.

All six of my mindies are teachers' children, I charge half fee in the hols, but I am not required to have them. If necessary I would and then the parent would top up the fee to full fee..

Taking a retainer means the childcare place MUST be available if the parent requires it. My contract states it is, but 48 hours notice must be given.

This suits both sides, I enjoy having the hols free as my two are 19 and 20 and the families know that I deserve a well needed break!
