Scottish agencies

Just want to let parents in Scotland aware of the differences between using an agency based in Scotland and those in England.

All agencies who place nannies in Scotland MUST be registered with the care commission www.carecommission.com This is even if they do not have an office in Scotland. Unfortunately, most English agencies are unaware of this and are breaking the law.
Scottish agencies pay annual fees in order to maintain their registration and undergo yearly inspections. It is very thorough.
One of the advantages of the registration with the care commission is that if your houshold income is within certain limits, employing a nanny through an agency means that you are eligible for the childcare elements of tax credits to help with childcare. Also, if your employer offers childcare vouchers, a registered agency can be used.
I hope that parents based in Scotland find this information useful.

but in england nannies can choose to be registered childcarers and then the parenst can claim childcare vouchers etc and have the security of the registration/inspection. its the same but voluntary (although many parenst ask their nannies to register to get the childcare vouchers which are worth a lot)
ofsted have pages of info about it

?

I think the reason Carron put the post up, was to highlight that if parents in Scotland use an English agency, they wont be able to claim for working tax credits or childcare vouchers. Also, the agency would be breaking the law, as they are not allowed to place in Scotland unless they are registered with the Care Commission. Dont worry - we werent advertising - since we didnt mention our agency name This was purely for information only! We are nice like that
