How much do you charge?

Just that really. I'm thinking about sending my 9 month old to a childminder 1 day a week but have no idea of cost. So was wondering how much it is an hour (I know it will vary to some extent).

Also, do childminders take a child for a few hours (maybe 5?) once a week?

TIA

It will vary a lot, £3.50-6.50 would be a typical range.
Your local Family Information Service (often run by local or county council) will be able to give you a list of childminders who you can contact for cost and availability details.

It's not just the hourly rate you need to think of, it's also does the fees include food/clubs/days out. Does the childminder have car seats and buggys or do you provide your own. Do they charge for days they are ill or on holiday, what about when your dc are ill or on holiday. Don't be out of by a childminder with a high hourly rate as it might work out cheaper over the year.

Thanks - some really useful info there. I hadn't thought of things like food etc so will bear that in mind. Will get in touch with my council for a list.

I am in North Yorkshire and my childminding fees are £3 an hour with £2 for a home cooked meal.No extra costs charged and all equipment provided unless we went out on pre agreed trips as a special event like on a train ride etc. Plenty of childminders will happily do those few hours. Your local Surestart should be able to give you details of suitable minders near you.
