School hours CM

Hi

I know this is a 'how long is a bit of string?' question...but I'd appreciate your views.

I have the opportunity to work school hours after my mat leave finishes. Which works well for school aged DS, less so for 9 month old DD by then. So I was thinking about a CM (if I can find one) c 9:15 - 3:15 for after thh school drop and before the collect depending on where they are in relation to the school/the tube.

Do CMs generally offer this? And for budgeting purposes whilst I weigh it all up is c£6 per hour about right for London?

Is there anything I should be aware of?

TIA

I have this very arrangement. Older two in school. Baby (now toddler / small child) is passed to childminder at school drop off and picked up from childminder at school pick-up. I would have a nose round the school gate for any childminders dropping kids off from school and they be available to take your baby until they go back to school to pick up children. Works a treat for us... or it did until child 2 moved schools while child 1 stayed at first school and now we have two schools and one toddler to coordinate all at once. Fun fun... I just love school admissions who don't consider the families who support them. Bitter... me? A little!

As for £6 in London, it depends where you are. I pay a bit more than that in West London.

Ok great thanks for that. Sounds like it worked well for you. Will keep an eye out at school.

Hope you have found a solution now your situ is different?

I agree with Strix on this oneWink. Although you might find whilst some childminders charge per hour others will charge you for the whole day because you are taking up a space and the won't be able to fill the time between 8-9am and 3-6pm etc.
Good luck though. What area are you? Maybe we can get you recommendations on here!

Good point. I get the sense that there aren't many CMs at the school but I haven't really looked into it.

In North East London. Need to look at the money, might need to work more than school hours. Sad

Not sure about rates as I'm nowhere near London, but as a cm I have one child before & after school and fill the time in between with a lo who is dropped here at 9.30 and collected at 2.30 (mum works in a school). Works really well for us all, both mums happy as they only pay for hours they use and I get (just more than) a full days rate. Contact local cm and ask, you may well find that you're able to fill a hole in their day.

As a childminder (but not in London) I would do this. I have older children after school, so to not have one of the littlies makes my life a bit easier at the busiest time of the day. Would you need childminder during the holidays? That could be something to mention when speaking to cm. you may share a place with a school child who needs the place during the holidays.

I would love that but I would need the baby to be dropped off at wherever I am going x
