From what I understand, we can now sign up to an annual renewal service. Is this to take over getting a check for every placement we have or is it just to make things easier/cheaper for things like Ofsted and agency work where we have to pay for our own?

I think it will take over checks for every position. OFSTED already have (in theory) some kind of auto-update/notification if you're registered.

Yeah, I never understood Ofsted's one. I wonder if that means it'll be cheaper to renew come January? Hmm

That will be handy then. I have just applied for a new one through Tinies so will get a renewal on that one, saves £30 odd quid a year!

The update service costs but should mean that repeated checks are not necessary for thpse people who change job quite often.
Should have the advantage that employers can check the status of the check online.

Not sure it will make any difference to nannies already on the Ofsted childcare register as Ofsted are not redoing checks.
For new applicants the DBS check is now an additional cost to the Ofsted reg fee, around £53 extra plus then the annual update around £13, though the update service seems to be optional.

Still no way for a parent to get a dbs check done on an employee, still has to be done via a registered body/umbrella body.

But parents will be able to log in and see whether a DBS is still clear, so it's worth a nanny doing it once via OFSTED/an agency and then paying the renewal because then they're in the system. There will be no 'need' for parents to carry out a new check unless the nanny is new to the country/the industry.
