Maternity Nurses & SE Nannies- Expenses claims? What do you claim for?

As the title really, my first year of being a Maternity Nurse and I would like to know what you claim for?

Can I claim for my train tickets each week to the family or not as obviously this would be great if I could. Upon research suggests no I cannot, although one thread I read said the person had got round it by saying their business was their home address and they claimed the travel to "clients" and back.

Anything else?

Mobile phone: what %
Laptop : any % at all

Obviously things like: Nanny insurance, CRB, First Aid, Car seat for child.

I claim petrol as my office is at home like you've said.

I claim for everything you've mentioned and any courses I've done, any books I've bought in relation to my business, advertising costs, website costs, printing business cards etc, any toys or gifts bought for the new baby

Thank you. I will attempt to claim my train tickets as these add up to around £20-£30 a week depending on which London train I manage to catch.

Def claim for travel - as I use my car for personal use as well I just add up miles @.45p rather then work out percentages of tax/insurance etc

The odd job I do in London I charge them all travel - so either taxi to station it station car park charges / train fare

As wicked said all business costs like printing - ink - paper (for invoices) as well as vista if use them

Clothes for general use tho think nick said had to have your company name on them - but I don't

Also an office fee for using room at home for work stuff - google it - think was £102 a year

Food you can't claim for a would eat whether at work or not

All insurances first aid crb any courses etc

Sure there are other things but can't think of at moment

I was audited by the HRMC and found out then I can't claim for travel to and from work and also can't claim for clothing. Frustrating for me when I know many MNs who claim for both travel and clothes! Best bet is to call tax line they are very helpful and then you won't have any confusion.
