I can find lots of tax calculators that tell me how much tax is paid on a gross salary, but I can't find one to convert net to monthly gross! Can anyone help or do I have to ask the accountant?

Look up 'reverse tax calculator'. there are a couple that pop up at the top of the google results. they don't do hourly pay figures but they do weekly/monthly/annual, so you'll need to work out what your nanny's monthly net pay will be ( net hourly rate times however many hours she will do per month) and use that. the calculator will then give you her gross monthly rate.

NB the calculators assume you are the only employer - it all gets a bit more complicated if you're not, as the nanny's personal allowance has to be shared somehow.

or... if you use a nanny payroll service, they will do this calculation for you.

Do you have your nanny's tax code? Are you her only employer, does she have any student debts or things taken directly from her pay?

Use link EldonAve posted. Make sure you select 2013/14 year.

DO NOT use for payroll purposes. Use to establish a likely gross wage, then agree that gross wage with nanny making sure they understand that it will not mean the net take home amount but will be close.

If nanny insists on a net wage you must use a payroll company as it needs to be calculated every pay run.
