Unprofessional???

Hi all, I'm a nanny for a lovely family with one little girl aged 16 months. We have a brilliant relationship and all is well.
Now would it be unprofessional to ask;
; if I could go and collect my wedding dress during working hours??? It's about a half hour drive away. Basically I need to get it to the alterations lady asap! And wedding in 3 weeks! It can't wait until weekend really cause the alterations are due to be done NOW or next few days, before lady goes on holiday. Dress is late being delivered to shop for some annoying reason. It was due in last week and I would have collected last weekend!
Is this cheeky to ask?? I think she'll probably say yes, but don't want her to think me unprofessional for asking!
What do you all think?
The other option would be to ask to finish work a couple of hours early tomorrow so I can collect it then without charge. But this seems cheeky to ask as well! Not sure what to do!
God, weddings are bloody stressful !! Confused

Id ask. Worst that can happen is she says no.

MarjorieAntrobus · 31/07/2013 09:21

I'd ask her. You're not going to make a habit of collecting wedding dresses for alteration. I mean it's very obviously a one-off errand.

Avondale · 31/07/2013 09:25

Ask! It's your wedding dress. She would have to have a heart of stone not to say yes!

BlastOff · 31/07/2013 09:28

Ask. I'd happily say yes to this if our nanny requested something like that. Congratulations by the way!

Seb101 · 31/07/2013 09:44

Thanks guys, yeah I'll ask today when she gets home. Grin Don't like asking things that I know she might not like, cause she's the type who probably wouldn't say no even if she wanted to! Obviously unless big issue. Just don't want to take advantage. Little one will be stuck in car for 1 hour round trip and have a pretty boring morning! But yeah I'll ask; it is an extremely important one off errands after all Wink

Ask - I wouldn't mind at all. The only thing I mind is that our Nanny always texts me to ask things like this when I see her for at least 2 hours a day! Grrr.... (but of course I would say yes!).

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/07/2013 13:01

Sure your mb won't mind. It's a one off. Maybe you can make one leg of the journey at her nap time and see if before you collect the dress see if a park /duck pond near by and have a play there as well to make the trip less boring

Tbh it's less hassle for you to collect dress rather then ask mb to come home early

Svrider · 31/07/2013 13:51

I was going suggest the sane as blondes
Find a local park and make an afternoon of it
Also in fairly sure a trip to a bridal shop could made educational...
Would shop be prepared to let the child look at the dresses, and pretend to be a princess?

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/07/2013 14:15

Oh. It's only half an hours drive away - tbh I've driven that for music /swimming lessons and even school runs so its not that long in the car so tbh I wouldn't worry about parks etc - tho no harm in going if you find one near then its a fun activity

Strix · 31/07/2013 14:40

I wouldnt mind at all if I were your employer.

Seb101 · 31/07/2013 15:57

Thanks everyone, that's made me feel more comfortable with asking. Sure little one will find whole thing great fun anyway, going somewhere new and all that. All those princess dresses with lots of sparkle bound to catch her attention. Oh and I'm just a tiny bit excited about collecting my beautiful dress!!GrinWink

I do all sorts with my chargers. Doctors, Opticians, Dentist... All errands I need to do for me or them.. I even went to collect my new car with them yesterday! I have a very relaxed boss

nannynewo · 02/08/2013 22:44

That sounds like an exciting morning out for the little one anyway IMO :) what did your boss say, op?

Seb101 · 03/08/2013 14:28

Boss was absolutely fine with it! No problems at all. She said 'of course'
We collected dress then had picnic and play at nearby park. Lovely day! I have a lovely boss!! Grin
