How close a relative do you need to be before you can childmind without registration. Do you have to be immediate family or at least as close as aunts, uncles and cousins or can great aunts, second cousins and so on also qualify.
Is there a cut off point for degree of kinship.

I can't remember exactly but it's on the ofsted website. I think it's people who would be seen in law as related I.e uncle, aunt, sil but not brothers girlfriend. But check ofsted and if its not clear ring them as they're really helpful.

Here you go, you need to be related through blood, marriage or civil partnership but this only applies up to age 8.

If it is in the child's own home or is for less than 2 hours per day then registration is also not required.

At least as close as aunt/uncle. There is a legal definition - look in Childcare Act 2006 or other places already mentioned.
