Registering as a CM - Just needing some support

Hi all,

I am in the process of registering as a childminder and am really just looking for some support.

I am so annoyed at myself!! I finally sent my forms off today only to come home and find that a compliment slip had fallen under the couch saying to use a different envelope to send the forms in as they had changed their address!! Bit late as I now posted them to the WRONG address!!! I now have to get hold of another set of forms and start again.

Angry I am so angry with myself as every day counts!! I am trying to become registered before I have to return to work from maternity leave at the beginning of August....Not going to happen is it?

How long does it take once OFSTED have received an application form for them to come out and visit?????? As long as my visit is done and I pass it by the time I have to go back to work then I'll be ok.

My Mum will be travelling up from Devon (I live in London) every week to look after my DS just while I get this up and running but she only really wants to do this for about a month

I am getting so stressed out as time is ticking by.....hence the reason it is 3:30am and I am still up stressing. Cannot go to bed feeling so anxious as I will just toss and turn.

Just looking for some support as everything seems to be going against me.

OFSTED will forward it on to other address so dont worry about that. However, it will take longer than a month Im afraid. They are meant to get you registered within 3 months but they dont always achieve that. My CRB alone has currently taken 6 weeks and the inspector had to come out and check forms before that went off.

Hi I am currently registering also. I handed in notice from my job three months ago to leave at the end of June but so far, I am not registered yet so may be unemployed soon - great!!

My Ofsted visit was about three weeks after I sent the applications off. Make sure you have read the National Standards! She tested me on all of them!

I think you have to prepare yourself to wait at least the full 3 months, if not 4. However you can still advertise locally and on the internet on websites such as familiesonline and hallolondon (just put them in google). A lot of people are looking for childcare to start in September already so there is no reason why they cant come and have a look at your place. As long as they are aware that you will be registered by the time you start they may want to hold on. That way, you can have your clients lined up by the time you start.

Hope this helps, I know it is a stressfull time!

Good luck
