Au Pair from Czech Republic

I have had a really interesting CV from a girl from the Czech Republic and I just wondered if anyone had any experience of an au pair from the same country as I admit to having little knowledge regarding their work ethic or personalities.

Obviously every individual is different but when I worked in the Czech Rep the people I met were lovely, hard working and responsible

I know several people who have au pairs from Czech republic. They are all really nice girls.

I think your posting is a little rude OP. Why should au pairs from anyone country be similar ? Did you mean it that way?
I have had au pairs from this country they were all very different.
One became homesick and went home before the end of her planned time but was a lovely girl and very hard working. Others were easy going and good with the children not so good with housework.
I have friends from this country and feel offended on their behalf.

I only have Czech au-pairs as I am Czech myself - so feel free to ask anything you would like to know :-)

I had a terrible au-pair, the current one is good (so far) :-)

Thank you Verap, you took it as I meant it and I will indeed ask some more questions. Nannyowl we are allowed to ask questions about things we don't know about, that is what mumsnet encourages, it wasn't meant to offend anyone, jeez!

I had an au pair from Czech Republic - we didn't really get on, she didn't like the DC, kept commenting how much better things were done in CR, and spent the whole time in her bedroom talking to people on Skype.

I had an au pair from Slovakia - she was fabulous, stayed for 3 years (upgraded to 'nanny' on proper terms and pay etc) and we are still in touch now.

I do think that by and large the candidates I came across from those countries did have a realistic idea of what to expect from an au pair role, were hard working and domesticated, and quite resourceful. It's dangerous to generalise, but I found for example that many of the Italian candidates did not seem quite so well prepared.

I had a Czech au pair a couple of years ago. She was lovely.

I think it is reasonable to post a thread looking for general information on a coutry's culture. It of course won't apply to every single person from that country. But some level of geralising is fair, I believe.

For example, I expect the say au pairs from sunny sicily might not do so well with my school run on the bus in rainy (sometimes) cold England. Its a generalisation and I might find a Sicilian who loves the cold. But I kind of thisnk he/she won't be the norm.

Likewise, if you hire an American, they will probably have straight teeth and pay great attention to hygeine. We are just like that... most of us anyway. Perhaps someone will come along and say they hired a smelly American...
