Nanny's flexibility and employer's expectations

I am looking for a nanny job and so far I have been disregarding term time only after school positions as they would not be able to pay what I need to support my own family.
I have just seen a couple of jobs where a nanny is needed in the afternoons but should be available all day should the children get sick and needed collecting from school, also available for full day care in school holidays ... also it says needed between 2-5 days a week depending on parents' work pattern. So in reality they are asking for a nanny to be available 5 full days in case something happens or parents need to work and when the children are off school. This would stop me looking for other jobs therefore if they only paid when I am actually working I would not be able to pay my bills. What's the general salary arrangement in such cases? Is the nanny paid for availability or when she is actually working?

I think they are expecting miracles and will only pay for the time worked. I wouldn't touch it in your position.

Yeah agree. They want all flexibility without paying for it. Don't touch, will end badly

One of my previous nanny jobs was similar. I worked for the family while the children were small and was paid a wage. It wasn't worked out hourly, just the same every month, regardless of what I had worked. When the girls started school, they kept me on, with the same pay etc as before. I worked after school every night and then full time in the holidays. I was on call for sick children. So, yes, I was paid for being on call in a way. School hours were my own time, no cleaning, errands etc. I guess it depends how much the family value a good nanny?

My nanny does after school/ mornings sometimes and school holidays for us. I pay her full time as I value having her available. You can't put a price on great childcare.
