Nanny/mother's helper/au pair in Australia

(Have failed to find an equivalent forum in Australia but know there are lots of Aussies/UK expats on Mumsnet so figure I would try here...)

Basically - do you live in Australia and have a nanny (live in or live out)/mother's helper/au pair? If so, would you share what you pay them (or paid, if in the recent past)?

We're currently looking at a mother's helper type role, for about 20 hours a week over 4 days...we live in inner Melbourne (about 10km from CBD). Wondering if there are other options we should consider (like someone live in)...but of course, would depend on salary. Any general thoughts appreciated!

for a fully qualified nanny with experience I would say $21 to $26 an hour. If it is a junior nanny/mothers help type person I would think $18 to $21.

I know it is pretty rubbish about there not being an aussie website like this very frustrating!

hi guys. I keep thinking about asking OH to pack up to oz for a few years- would I get a nanny job ok? 5 years experience nannying multiples..qualified etc.

do nanny jobs where you take your own child exist there?

Thanks Nannyme1 - that is pretty much the range I've been seeing, so thanks for confirming.

sweetsummerlove - still trying to work it out!! Doesn't seem to be as many nannies etc with families I know here - though I know quite a few families in the UK who used paid help. And childcare places seem so much harder to find here...
