I am a cm and I have had an enquiry for a lo with Cythsic Fibrosis. I know what the disease is but does a cm need any special training to take on this lo. Mum said she will teach me how to administer medicine. Not sure if I need to call Ofsted? Thanks.

You just need to talk to the mum and find out what her particular child needs.

You don't need to call Ofsted but you do need to bear the DDA in mind. You can't just say you don't want to take care of a child because of their disability.

If you need any special training the nurses who trained the mother can train you.

I looked after a baby who had cf (im a nanny) and mum showed me how to give his medicine - which was simple to give

Only thing she said was to not come in if have a cold etc and avoid all children with sniffles etc as very prone to infection - so as a mum I would be wary of using a cm if i had a child with cf as obv you would have other mindees who may come with colds etc

Something for you to mention to the mum - what would happen if any of your dc had colds? Obv you would still have to be paid if child too poorly to come to you or mum wanted to avoid cold situations

I can't see why you would have to tell ofsted - nothing to do with them

Thank you for your replies. The colds situation is what I thought about too. I think maybe a nanny would be better for them so if the lo is ill, the nanny can still look after them.
