If your child uses a pushchair at their childminder's, would this bother you?

I've never been keen on those pushchairs where one LO effectively sits in the shopping basket and for that reason have avoided them for minding.

However in September I will need a double pushchair fir one school run a week for a 2yr old and 11mo. The other days their will be only one needing a seat and so I was looking to get an Obaby XI tandem and just add on the second seat for that one journey.

The 2yo old can't use a buggy board or walk that far by the way but I hope it won't be long before he can.

Any thoughts if you were his mum? Would you mind?

Woukdnt be bothered at all, but then I used a Phil and teds myself, my kids loved it and it was a godsend for the school run.

MatriarchalDreams · 02/06/2013 22:52

If it'd really only be for one school run a week I'd be OK about it but in general I really don't like them and would be very unhappy if my daughter was going to be travelling in one all the time.

NarkyNamechanger · 02/06/2013 22:56

Thanks.

I agree I don't really like them but they only come one day together and the morning we go in the car (and onto a group/outing) so would just be the afternoon. All other times I'd be using it as a single. Also hoping he'll get walking further soon!

Having had a look at that one, the bottom seat doesn't look quite as low as the Phil and Ted's one so I'd be a bit happier about that I think and as it's only once a week you need it, it sounds like a sensible idea, another idea would be to use a sling, my CM uses one for my DD sometimes.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/06/2013 11:35

Personally I hate Phil and teds style buggies

Bottom child gets no view :(

Does the child have sn's?

Wondered why can't stand on buggy board for one day?

Tho again not a huge lover of them as I always wallop my shins on them Wink but for one day would manage

NarkyNamechanger · 03/06/2013 13:29

He's just a late walker (currently 23months) and only walking 6 weeks. I can't see him managing it just yet but as above, I hope it won't be too long. I already have a buggy board and he's just not stable enough on it.

It wouldn't bother me. Buggies are for transportation. If my DC is having a lovely time at your house and then you put him in the buggy for 15 mins to transport him to the park/playgroup/swimming pool/softplay so he can continue having fun there, I'm really not going to worry that he doesn't' have a view for a short while! You're still allowed to talk to them while they're in the shopping basket seat you know?!

FeelingHip · 03/06/2013 13:43

This is funny...my CM tried to encourage me to get a P&T when I announced I was expecting my second...I didn't listen because I really hate the idea of them. However, my first son LOVES sitting in the back seat when he is at the CM and always asks her if he can sit in that seat (the children are similar age). So whilst I wouldn't choose it for myself I never minded (even before I knew how much my son liked it) that the CM had one...go for it! I agree with Outraged...

5madthings · 03/06/2013 13:43

They can actually see fine, I never liked the look of them much but once we tired one it was great, the little ones would fight to go in the bottom as they loved it and I know lots of others who had the same.

And yes you can talk to them easily.

Startail · 03/06/2013 13:46

I agree, I'm not sure about them for an all day trip out, but for the school run I can't see why not.

DF with three DCs had one. Much better on our awful pavement-less road than a full width double as it allows you to keep the eldest walking child close.

EleanorHandbasket · 03/06/2013 13:47

I love my P&T and so do all the children

Confused

It's a buggy, fgs, not a child torture device.

DewDr0p · 03/06/2013 13:52

Mine used to fight over whose turn it was to go in the bottom seat of the P&T lol! They do have a view, just a sideways one.

And they are not "effectively sat in the shopping basket" - they are sat in a seat. Can't see the problem myself.

blueberryupsidedown · 03/06/2013 14:00

Personally I don't like them, as I was always out walking with my kids they spent a lot of time in the buggy, they couldn't sleep comfortably in a P&T. I don't like the fact that they are a faf getting in and out of the car, attaching the back seat, and they take a lot of space folded, I find it difficult to push, and where can I put the shopping? But if you are doing only a couple of school runs a week, I think it would be fine! I am childminding as well and do ten school runs, 20 minutes each way, so I needed a buggy that was easy to push. I have a out and about nipper, they are big, a pain to fold, but sosososo easy to push.

ReetPetit · 03/06/2013 14:09

agree with Eleanor! Smile

i wouldn't worry op, unless the parents are willing to pay for you to transport their children in a state of the art side by side for more than 2 kids pushchair where no one has to sit underneath - i wouldn't even ask them! At the end of the day, it's one school run a week, it's not going to do any harm and you can change around each week who gets to sit underneath, i really don't think it's a big deal! Confused

NarkyNamechanger · 03/06/2013 19:32

Hehe true reet

I think I'll buy it. I don't plan on asking them because I can't run every decision by parents or I'd get nothing done but I just wondered what sort of reaction these pushchairs get, bearing mind I don't like them.

Someone made a comment to me the other day about 'the poor child' who had to sit in the 'boot seat' . I was Confused.

I've had a P&T of some description for 8 years (for cming) and have never had a child unhappy about sitting in the back. The opposite! They all want to sit there and we have to negotiate a rota Grin

Yes, it's a bit tricky if you want it to hold your shopping aswell as two children but there are plenty of ways around that.

Re the O'Baby - I would be more inclined to get a P&T. Also, having recently bought (and sold on again) a new P&T, I would be looking for a secondhand one. The newer ones seem to have suffered a few too many cost-cutting attempts. Whereas, if you can get a tidy Sport it will last a very long time and seems to be better built.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 03/06/2013 21:27

Here they argue over the 'back' seat. It was much easier when the younger one was pre-varbal and just got put in the front!! Grin

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 03/06/2013 21:28

varbal - what on earth is varbal??

verbal :)

LingDiLong · 04/06/2013 22:04

Blimey, it never occurred to me that anyone would have a problem with a Phil & Ted's. Why would they? What am I missing?!

I'm a childminder with a Phil & Ted's and as others have said the bottom seat seems to be the favourite. Shopping basket not much of an issue as I don't tend to shop with the mindees although I do miss having that space on a day out to cram cardis/picnics/hats/blankets into.

I really, really don't get why a parent would mind a 23 month old using a pushchair either?! I mean, obviously, kids should be encouraged to walk wherever possible but in any group childcare setting there are going to be occasions where a pushchair is safer or more practical.

NarkyNamechanger · 05/06/2013 11:45

Oh no parent doesn't mind at all about me using the pushchair for him, if anything it's a preference.
