'Term-time'?? Childcarer

Wow! I finally found a childcarer who seems she could be perfect, and am hoping to meet her next week, but I just noticed in her notes she gives term-time care.

I will obviously ask her about it but it baffles me :/ what does it mean? ie how do i find our what Scottish school terms actually are? I am not a schoolteacher and work all year round. So how do other parents cope with this 'term time' childcare limit?

When I was teaching this sort of child are was a godsend as it meant I didn't have to pay when I wasn't working. All my childminders clients were teachers and she had a waiting list. Obviously if you don't have sch hols then she isn't the one for you. Though do double check as some offer both types of contract so term time only but at a slightly higher rate alongside doing all year.

Re when the state school holidays are, phone your local education authority or check their website.

Aha thanks grapes :( has been such a heart wrenching search and she has by far been the most hopeful candidate.

Yes, it is hard especially when it's your first. I felt horrible for about 3mths but we all settled eventually.
In our case the CM chose to do to time as she had 3 children of her own who were at primary school so it meant she could have sch hols with her own kids. Obviously, for me, it was ideal but it doesn't suit non teachers and all her clients that I knew of were teachers.

Talk to her though in case she offers both. Even if she doesn't, she may be able to recommend someone with a similar ethos to herself. Good luck. It's hard as you want it all to be perfect but as long as the CM is safe and nurturing it will be fine!

Hi

I am a qualified Nanny as well, Term-Time childcare means she would only be providing childcare during the school term. when the holidays come she would follow and will not work on school holidays.
