I have recently had a lot of interest and have signed up a couple of new families.

So in September I will have for two days a week...
10 month baby
2 y o
3.11 y o

And my DC 4 in FS2.
Am I right in thinking because my DC starts full time school he counts as a +5 and not as an Early Years?
How do I stand with the half days they do for a couple 4 weeks at the start?

Also come November when my other DC turns 8, the parents of the baby have asked me to look after their other DS on those two days. He will be in FS2.

So I'll have:
Baby
2 y o
4 y o
Plus
2 x 4 y o in FS2
A 5 y o (Year 1)

And my DS 8.

Not for the faint hearted!

P.s taking the 2 year old on is due to her current carer (family member) being diagnosed with cancer and having to undergo an operation and treatment. Hmm
And DC will be with me only until 2.30pm normally unless Hospital commitments dictate otherwise, then I will have her until Mum can pick her up after work.

They only go upto an over 5 when they are there full time do you may have a couple of weeks overlap, can any start later or could you have an assistant for these few weeks, the numbers in nov look ok to me as long as your do turns 8 before as the others will be full time then.

Sorry for typos!

As long as you risk assess you can go up to 4 under 5
You use to have to ask ofsted and they would change your certificate but now they just say RA

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 29/05/2013 09:27

You can't risk assess to start with though as its new business you still have to follow the same rules as before, otherwise everyone would just have 4 all the time.

It depends if your 4 year olds are in f/t nursery class or reception. If they are in reception you will be ok i think but maybe call ofsted to check. Will you have them all in school holidays?

Thanks for your replies.
My DS will be only be half days for approx 3-4 weeks. I will see if I can register my sister as my assistant. I was thinking if doing that anyway.
I would get his Grandparents to pick him up but this is not allowed under Ofsted terms. I think I will ring them.
I am we'll over due my inspection so would like to ask about that too.

In November the 2 in Reception will be full time.

Thankfully the baby and sibling are TTO otherwise I wouldn't have done it. They are quite short hours 8.30 (meet Mum at school to collect baby) until 4.30.

And my 2 year old should leave at 2.30.

It would initially be an overlap of 2 hours and three quarters and then when he stays for dinner an hour and a half.

i was in a similar situation- had overlaps for a couple of hours on certain days. i phoned OFSTED & was informed that as long as i can RA & 'justify' that i can care for all children & having an overlap doesn't have an impact on the care i offer to the others.
The hardest thing i had was trying to justify it to a certain parent who would come in and very loudly count all the children in the house & ask their LO who else had been!! :/

Agree with others. Once 4yos go full time, you're ok.
