So peed off with this mum....

I took on a mindee (2yo) on an as required contract last month. I've had lo 9 days in total, mum contacted me yesterday asking if I could watch lo Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday this week. I told mum that it was half term so I had availability. I also told mum that we had plans for outings and activities this week so lo could come as long as she didn't mind lo participating. No problem she said.

This morning they turn up and lo did not look happy. Mum said it was because lo had woken up early, she then asked if we had plans to go out today as lo was recovering from a cold and she would prefer it if lo stayed in. I didn't really think too much about it at the time and said we could stay in (we were going to go shopping to get stuff for packed lunches for outing tomorrow but I could do that on line and we had plenty of indoor activities planned as the weather is rubbish). Anyway, lo did not move off the sofa all morning, didn't want to join in any of the activities or even eat then fell asleep at 11.30. LO was still asleep at 2.30 and I was about to call mum and tell her that I couldn't have lo tomorrow as the child was too ill to go on the outing. Then the child woke up with a ferocious appetite and ate a hearty lunch and looked much better so I spoke to mum and told her how the morning was and as long as lo continued to improve then tomorrow would be ok. About half an hour after talking to mum lo threw up! So after I cleared up I called mum and said that I would keep lo till the end of the day but I would not be able to take the child for the rest of the week. Then lo threw up again so I called mum and told her that she had to come straight away to collect the child (it was about 4.15 so only an hour earlier than normal), mum asked if the child was ok tomorrowcould I take lo on Thursday as planned!!!!! Seriously!!! I said no. In the next 10 minutes the child threw up twice more, I tried to call mum to tell her that she would need to bring some clothes as lo had used all the spares that she had packed but she didn't answer her phone just texted me to say dad was on his way.

I am so peed off! How sick was this child? LO did have a hacking cough all morning and was obviously ill. It is not the first time that the child has been brought to me sick, last time I had lo there were some very loose stools but as it was the last day I was scheduled to have the child I let it go, well never again. I am soooooo never having this child again.

Oooh, calm down me!

I'm not a childminder, but I know that my DS (2.7) has had a mild and innocuous cold, which was basically a runny nose and cough (which for him is hacking as he is asthmatic).

He seems fine with me, but then I can take him to nursery and he's fine, but the next time with almost the same symptoms... vomit city.

Sometimes that's just the way of kids I think!

Jesus that's cheeky. If they're sick or have diarrhoea the school won't take them back for two days because they're obviously contagious. She's taking the piss and I feel sorry for her poor lo who still gets sent to you even when they're ill. Wonder what this child has to do to get its parents attention.

This is why I won't go back to work. We have no childcare outside of ourselves and can't afford nannies etc and I just wouldn't be going off to some job when my children are ill.

god op that's seriously out of order! some people need to get their priorities straight Angry are you going to give notice?

i am having same issues atm with a parent and am planning on giving notice soon - some people have no respect - now if you catch it, you can't work, loose money and have to let other parents down, grr, you must be fuming!!

It always happens to me! Often the mindees tell me 'my brother was sick last night' or 'mummy gave me some medicine as I was hot.' Then they throw up Confused

I am so strict now, I only take colds if they are up and about. Nothing contagious, sticky eyes, sick etc that requires extra care from me

I have a mum who doses them up then they start burning up around dinner and she's usually conveniently out of signal til it's nearly pick up, only 8 days left working with them and can't come soon enough!
