Holiday childcare when dcs span reception-2ndary school age?

My oldest is starting 2ndary school in Sept.
My youngest is starting primary school in Sept.
I work part time, during school hours, but I also work during school holidays.

Not sure how to cover school holiday childcare, now that I won't be having a regular nanny.

Is there such a thing as (a) nannies just for the school holidays, (b) kids day activity camps for older kids in Y7+ (c) some amazing solution that I haven't thought of yet...?

How do you all do it?

Our holiday nanny is a trainee teacher, we found her on gumtree, although recently a couple of people have contacted me on childcare.co.uk offering a similar sort of thing (childcare in school holidays only). Both of them work in a pre-school which is term time only.

I don't think it would be too difficult to find unless you live in the middle of nowhere!

The only potential problems you may have are getting someone to commit to every holiday (they may have plans themselves) and covering the extra school holidays that private schools have can be tricky.
Also, if they have only worked in a pre-school/school before, they're likely to be CRB'd and qualified, but they may not have the skill set to be a good nanny. You'd need to be very clear about house keeping duties etc and help them initially how to plan a day and look after different ages and how to manage themselves.

My nanny who had only worked in a nursery was very good eventually, but it took a good month or so before she didn't need lots of managing.

I am seeing an ad on this page right now from a holiday camp provider saying age 4-16, so certainly in some areas there will be holiday camps operating for part/all of the school holidays. Probably not good to use all the time, though could be used to cover days when other form of care is not available.

I used to do just school holiday when worked term Time only but actually most jobs ended up being maternity nanny or proxy parent rather than school age daily nanny holiday cover as i expected

My niece; in her twenties, works in a special school as a teaching assistant, is looking for summer holiday work in East Kent. PM me if your area.

I wouldn't use any sort of childcare for a secondary age child so would look for a nursery that do holiday clubs for the yi
